Ash Wednesday, Fasting and Abstinence
-Fasting is to be observed by all 18 years of age and older, who have not yet celebrated their 59th birthday. On a fast day one full meal is allowed. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one's needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and juices, are allowed.
Abstinence is observed by all 14 years of age and older. On days of abstinence no meat is allowed. Note that when health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. When in doubt concerning fast and abstinence, the parish priest should be consulted.
Ash Wednesday, March 5 and Good Friday, April 18, are days of fast and abstinence. All the Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence.
Fasting, almsgiving, and prayer are the three traditional disciplines of Lent. The faithful and catechumens should undertake these practices seriously in a spirit of penance and of preparation for baptism or of renewal of baptism at Easter.

Faith Formation Classes Calendar 2013-2014
A message from our Faith Formation Director, Jenny Mansingh:
2014 is here and we have all started to work on planning this year’s calendar and activities! With this in mind I wish to draw your attention to the sacramental preparatory dates for First Holy Communion, and for Confirmation. Please remember it is mandatory that you and your child attend these classes. A missed session will postpone the reception of the Sacrament. Your children should also be attending weekend Masses to fulfill their Sunday obligation and Holy Days as well. Please do not assume that your child will be receiving the sacrament without first checking with me.

As we plan for these celebrations let us keep in mind that the preparation is as important as the “big day.” When we go on vacation or travel to any destination, the journey is part of the trip. The things we see for the first time, the unexpected events, the people we meet, etc. So it is with our faith. Let us be attentive, let our hearts be receptive to all that happens to us as we walk this journey of faith. God Bless you.
